Big news straight from the top, Donald trump says that immigrants who work in the legal marijuana markets could be denied US citizenship based on a lack of “good moral character”. If you’re from the LA area you could see how this could be a huge issue as a lot of legal immigrants on work visas live and work in California. Washington 6mnpost notes that Denver Mayor Michael Hancock contacted Attorney general Barr asking for clarification is permanent residents who are here legally would be Denied naturalization soley because of their cannabis industry employment, which he says happened to two of his Denver residents.
Immigration lawyers and experts warn against working within the cannabis industry for these affected individuals due to the imminent danger that their citizenship could be in. This has been confirmed by the Trump administration.
This obviously could spell danger for a lot for people who have been living here for years. California is home to almost a quarter of the united states undocumented population. In LA alone there are a supposed 3.5 million immigrants. All of these people have called Cali their home and my thinking is that there has to be a fat percentage working in the marijuana field.
In more uplifting 4/20 news it seems like major corporations are getting in the holiday spirit by having special promotions. Carl’s jr. the popular burger joint is selling a CBD infused hamburger, lyft is offering $4.20 rides in select locations and pizza hut has 4.20 brownies. This is just a sign of the times where marijuana use is becoming normalized. 10 years ago it was such a taboo topic still and how its publicly promoted. Especially though the use of CBD since it has so many health benefits while being a non-psychoactive chemical really helps the public enjoy is not at least come to respect the plant. After all it is just that, a plant, a tool, a medicine. The propaganda machine has slowly coming to a halt.
